Kate will be presenting Building a Nonprofit Social Enterprise at the Metropolitan Economic Development Association's 2008 Microenterprise Development Conference. The conference will be help April 7-8 in St. Cloud, MN. The goal is to connect "local and national microenterprise practitioners, technical assistance
providers, funders, and policymakers [to] explore ways to create
strong, self-sufficient microenterprise programs and robust, diverse
local economies." In addition to Kate's session, the conference will feature topics such as harnessing the power of technology, effective fundraising, and a new way of thinking about rural microenterprise development.
Kate's session, Building a Nonprofit Social Enterprise, is designed for nonprofit organizations who are seeking to diversify funding by exploring opportunities to create a business venture or social enterprise. The session helps nonprofit staff understand the terminology and essential considerations to find the right earned income opportunities and mix for their organization -- one that fits their programs, strengthens their mission, and helps to stabilize a nonprofit's financial base.
